📧 Email Safety
Emails are the most common way hackers trick people into sharing information. This lesson will teach you how to spot scams, avoid phishing, and keep your inbox safe.
Step 1: Recognize Phishing Emails
Phishing emails pretend to be from trusted organizations (banks, delivery services, or even friends) to steal your details.
- Look for spelling mistakes and unusual requests.
- Check the sender’s email address carefully.
- Never click suspicious links or attachments.
Step 2: Don’t Share Sensitive Info
Legitimate companies will never ask you to share passwords, PINs, or credit card details via email.
- Ignore emails asking for confidential details.
- If unsure, contact the company directly via their official website.
Step 3: Use Spam Filters
Email providers like Gmail and Outlook have built-in spam filters that block suspicious messages. Make sure they are turned on.
- Mark suspicious emails as spam instead of deleting them.
- Check your spam folder occasionally for false positives.
Step 4: Keep Email Accounts Secure
Protect your email account itself—because if hackers get in, they can reset passwords for everything else you own.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
- Use a unique, strong password for your email account.
- Log out from public computers after use.
Step 5: Beware of Attachments & Links
Many email viruses are spread through infected files and links that lead to fake websites.
- Only open attachments from people you trust.
- Hover over links to check their real destination before clicking.
- If it feels suspicious, don’t click!
